A spectacular night! That's the
best way to describe the TELESCOPE NIGHT held on May 1st in
Dublin's Phoenix Park. The sky was clear and the telescopes
were large and plentiful.
On view were Saturn and
Mars, with Mercury making
a quick appearance right at the very beginning (it'll be
better in the next few days - see the Sky Diary pages of the
May issue of our magazine). We
also had views of such objects as M13 the great globular
cluster in Hercules - a dense cluster of 1 million stars all
in the same field of view.
We had the giant Millennium
Telescope scope, at 21-inches in diameter it is the biggest
portable telescope in Ireland. It's next public appearance
will be at Star-B-Q on August 30th.
Also there were 11-inch,
9.25-inch and 8-inch telescopes for the hundreds of people
who came along to look through all the telescopes.
We also launched our new
"PRICES SLASHED" price list to the general public
- for the month of May we have some of the lowest prices in
Europe - see HERE
