A crowd of just under 200 people including volunteers turned up for Ireland's largest gathering of
Amateur
Astronomers, under clear skies, which took place on May 7 2004 in the new venue
at An
Tochar GAA
Club in Roundwood, Co. Wicklow. They came from all corners of
Ireland young and old alike for a night
under the stars. The food was cooked and served by club
members Ian Breslin, Geraldine Farrell and
Emlyn Jones who served up the best of mouth-watering barbequed
food throughout the night.
The evening started with
a well attended, introductory lecture in
the hall by the David Moore on the
"Universe". Tony Ryan followed this up with his excellent naked eye guided tour of the
heavens, pointing
out night sky objects with a powerful beam that shone into the heavens.
Fifteen telescopes were lined up
for people to view the planets Saturn, Venus and Jupiter first of all followed by other
other deep sky objects.
Sincerest thanks to all the volunteers
who helped out at the event.
