Astronomers appeal for fireball sightings

Monday, 6 April 2009

Astronomers are calling for help in finding a meteorite that's believed to have landed in the Ireland or the UK.

Reports of a massive fireball in the sky in the early hours of Sunday morning could have been an object entering the atmosphere.

Scientists are now trying to compile a list of sightings to pinpoint where it landed.

Anyone who saw it is being asked to go to www.astronomy.ie to list their sighting.

David Moore, Chairman of Astronomy Ireland, says meteorites can be incredibly valuable.
