Fireball sightings in Sligo
Witnesses in Sligo and Leitrim to a fireball that blazed across the country yesterday are being urged to report their sightings to Astronomy Ireland.
Thousands of people nationwide have reported seeing a ball of fire falling from the sky yesterday evening.
Reports this morning suggest the meteorite may have landed in the northern half of the country.
Sightings have been reported in both Templeboy and Skreen.
Callers to Ocean FM’s Drivetime Show with Francie Boylan yesterday evening spoke of a “huge bright light” similar to that usually seen on a welder.
One caller spoke of seeing the fireball around the Strandhill Road and described a “turquoise light, which was orange in the centre” that fell rapidly from the sky.
