Cr: Dr. Tim O'Brien Lovell Telescope  Cr:Dr. Tim O'Brien/Jodrell Bank

The talk begins with the development of life on Earth and then moves on to discuss the possibility of life on other planets in the solar system. The latest discoveries of planets orbiting other stars are described and it is explained how this opens up many potential sites for the search for life elsewhere in the universe. Finally the current status and the role of Jodrell Bank in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) is discussed.
