The Super Modified Achromat (SMA) is a 3-lens design from Celestron giving wide angle (52° apparent field) eyepiece with good eye relief and edge of field definition. This is an excellent eyepiece surpassed only by the NexStar Plössl range. More than adequate for our Firstscope range if the NexStar Plössl are beyond your means.

Celestron NexStar Plössl Eyepieces |
(Rated as "top ranking" in a Sky & Telescope Magazine review. Outperforms all other Plössl and rivals quality of more expensive specialist brands. Highly recommended for any of our Medium to Advanced Scopes.)
The 3.6mm effectively includes a mini-Barlow lens to give reasonable eye relief. The 32mm and 40mm have extra lens to achieve such long focal lengths. Hence the slightly higher prices. Apparent field of view on most Plössl is 52º.
