| This years Astro-Expo 2004 which was
run in association with the Discover Science and Engineering project,
was a terrific success with thousands of people attending the event from
all corners of Ireland and the UK.
The deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr. Andrew Montague opened the
event. The European Space Agency sent astronaut Gerhard Thiele specially
to ireland to open the event and give a lecture on Space Travel.
He also talked to people afterwards, signed photographs and gave
interviews. Space Encounters provided the Mobile Planetarium at the
exhibition. Our popular Astronomy Ireland dinner on the Saturday
in the nearby Regency Hotel proved a great success with 40 people
including guests Astronaut Gerhard Thiele and his wife, who is an
equally charming person, Speakers - Oisin MacConamhna, Prof. Mike
Edmunds (Isaac Newton), Dr. Andy Newsam among others. A late
night was had and new frienships were made. Gerhard Thiele
returned to Cologne having developed a fondness for Guinness.
