Was Einstein Wrong?

Public lecture at Astro-Expo 2011

Saturday 19 November 2011 12pm to 6pm

SNIAM Building, Trinity College Dublin

Listen to Dr O'Raifeartaigh talk about faster than light neutrinos with Pat Kenny HERE.

According to some of the world's top scientists at CERN some things possibly CAN travel faster than the speed of light, something which is completely disallowed in Einstein's Theory of Relativity.

The huge science team, based in Italy and Switzerland, are hoping that their experiment can be tested by other scientists around the world to find out what's really happening.

If it turns out that some particles can accelerate beyond the speed of light, it will open up a whole new world of science and physics!

To celebrate its annual space and astronomy exhibition - Astro-Expo - Astronomy Ireland has asked one of Ireland's leading authorities in this area, Dr Cormac O'Raifeartaigh, to explain this dramatic new finding to the general puplic

Dr O'Raifeartaigh is a very popular public speaker gifted at explaining complex scientific issues in layman's terms. As a professional scientist working in this area he is uniquely qualified to explain what has happened, what is at stake, and what, if anything, might resolve this issue and the fate that awaits us all if no resolution can be found.

This lecture Faster Than Light takes place at 3pm on Saturday. Book tickets HERE.

Astronomy Ireland's annual astronomy exhibition will once again take place this year in Trinity College Dublin. This year's event is a one-day affair, with people coming from all parts of Ireland. It takes place on Saturday, November 19.

Also speaking at the Astro-Expo is Dave Gradwell with his talk 'The Complete Amateur Solar Observatory'

Dave Gradwell has been observing the Sun for many years and his solar images are known worldwide. From his observatory near Birr he observes many aspects of solar activity, all of which are in reach of the amateur. This year he has accurately predicted 3 occurrences of the Northern Lights over Ireland. In this talk he will explain, how to observe the Sun through telescopes, Capture solar flares as they happen, and observe the effect of the Sun's magnetic field on the Earth and as a result predict occurrences of the Northern Lights. Some of his images can be viewed on his website www.davegradwell.com

Dave Gradwell's lecture takes place at 1pm on Saturday. Book tickets HERE.
