                    Astro-Expo 2008


This year the event takes place on 8th November in the amazing Science Gallery, Trinity College Dublin.  It is a state of the art purpose built venue showing off the best that science has to offer and is situated on the Pearse Street side of Trinity College.

This year will be bigger and better that ever before with planetaria, observatories and everything from the wonderful to the downright weird- in other words something for all the family :-).

Exhibitors include:

Inishowen Planetarium - Rocket based exhibit.
Brownstown Observatory - imaging display.
Blackrock Observatory.
South Dublin Astronomy Society.
Irish Astrophotograpy - (David Grennan who just 2 weeks ago discoverd Ireland's third only Asteroid).
Mythical Ireland - ancient astronomy.
Astronomy Shop - Telescopes, binoculars, books, accessories.
Natures Treasures - meteorites etc.
Dublin City University - Astrophysics.
NUI Maynooty - Physics with Astrophysics.
UCD - Astrophysics.
Astronomy Ireland.
Trinity College - Astrophysics.
ESA - Space Quiz - presented by Eamonn O'Fearchain.

There will also be a mobile inflatable planetarium with shows happening every hour.

And many more.

                        

Lectures:

1:00pm. 'The Wrath of Ra' (a lecture on the Sun and how it affects us) by Dr. James McAteer of NASA and TCD Astrophysics.

2:30pm. 'Celtic Rock - hunting for Asteroids' by Dave McDonald.  Dave recently discovered the second asteroid from Ireland (2008 TM9) - the first was discovered from Markree Castle observatory, Sligo by Andrew Graham in 1848. 

4:00pm. 'The Coming Space Power of China' by renowned space author and A&S contributor Brian Harvey.  The Chinese space program goes from strength to strength now with a space walk under their belts.  They are now considering a moon landing.

DVDs of this and past lectures are just €7 each (add €5 for P&P for any number of DVDs).

                         

So all in all this event is set to be the highlight of the astronomical calendar.  Don't miss the fun!!!

 

Admission to the exhibition is free.

Admission to each lecture is €10 

or €25 admission to all 3.  Members of Astronomy Ireland get a 20% reduction
