The second Star-B-Q of the Year took place on August 26 in Roundwood GAA Club in County Wicklow.  The event this year was professionally catered by Dublin Food Sales who did an excellent job of feeding the masses.  August 26 was the first possible date for the event.  As always media interest in the event was enormous.  The possibility of an appearance of the Northern Lights only helped to heighten the excitement.  In all over 500 people came to hear lectures, eat great food and get a view of the heavens.

David Moore's lecture "The Universe" was the first event and the lecture hall was packed almost to capacity for this.  This was followed by Emlyn Jones's lecture "How to get started in Astronomy".  Tony Ryan did get some breaks in the cloud to give his naked eye "Walk through the Heavens".  Skies were partly clear to begin with, some clouds rolled in, but later on it cleared up beautifully and fantastic views were had of the wonders of the universe like the Ring Nebula, galaxies, globular clusters, the Dumbbell nebula, the Wild Duck cluster, double stars, the planets Mars and even Uranus and Neptune which clearly showed disks despite their enormous distance. Even the Moon was viewed later on when it rose. Our next big event are Eclipse Watches nationwide on October 3.

**For anyone that was at the Star-B-Q on Friday 26 that would like to come along on one of our weekend telescope nights call (01) 8470777 after 4pm and before 5pm on Friday any week.  As these events are weather dependent and response dependent they do not happen every weekend.  We would love to have you come along.  The venue will not necessarily be the same as the Star-B-Q so check when you ring in.
