Lecture Program
The highlight
of the six lectures was of course "From the moon to Mars - the
story of the Beagle 2" which was given by Dr. Geraint Morgan and
assisted by Dr. Jennifer Stuart both of whom work on the Beagle 2
project and came specially from the UK to give the lecture. Gerry Hogan of
Coronado Solar Filters in the US gave a very good lecture on the
"Transit of Venus" and Dr. Peter Duffy an excellent lecture
on "Cosmic explosions and the big Bang" all on
Saturday. Our own Emmet Mordaunt stepped up to give a
fascinating lecture on "Life in the Universe" as the first
lecture on Sunday. This was followed by another excellent
lecture - "Mars a Cosmic Stepping Stone" by Kevin Nolan of
the Planetary Society. The day and indeed Astro-Expo was ended
by a very informative lecture "Webcams and Video Imaging" by
Dave Gradwell. All in all a great line-up of lectures.
On the Saturday night 40 people went to the Regency Hotel for
dinner and a few drinks. The guests of honour were the Beagle 2
team. An enjoyable night was had by all..
